조은주는 일상적인 오브제를 활용해 초현실적인 내적 풍경을 그려낸다. 파도와 달을 머금은 장식장이나 나무가 자라나는 낡은 의자는 감상자를 무의식과 상상의 세계로 이끈다. 조은주는 광활한 자연과 대비되게 장식장, 안락의자, 침대와 아기자기한 가구를 배치한다. 파스텔톤으로 담긴 낯설지만 평화로운 정경은 감상자를 포근한 꿈과 치유의 세계로 이끈다. 《안락의자》 연작은 항해를 떠난 의자에 축적된 시간과 함께 새 생명이 피어나는 순간을 묘사한다. 안락의자는 이제 새의 둥지이자 배가 되어, 누군가의 안식처로 기능한다. 집을 떠난 가구는 자연 속에서 색다른 역할을 부여받으면서 다시 탄생한다. 이처럼 조은주의 회화는 우리를 안아주는 집과 생명의 근원인 자연을 연결하여, 평범한 일상에서 다시금 생명과 희망이 싹틀 가능성을 그린다.

Cho Eunjoo creates surreal inner landscapes through the use of familiar everyday objects. Cabinets containing waves and moons, or worn armchairs from which trees emerge, guide viewers into realms of imagination and the subconscious. The artist juxtaposes vast natural scenery with intimate furnishings such as cabinets, armchairs, beds, and other domestic objects. Rendered in soft pastel tones, these unfamiliar yet peaceful scenes lead viewers into a world of comfort, dreams, and healing. Her Armchair series depicts moments in which new life emerges alongside the accumulated passage of time carried by a chair that has embarked on a voyage. The armchair becomes both a bird’s nest and a vessel, transformed into a place of shelter and rest. Having left the home, the furniture is reborn within nature, taking on new purposes and meanings. Through these imaginative transformations, Cho’s paintings connect the home with nature, the source of life itself. In doing so, they suggest the possibility that life and hope may once again take root within the ordinary moments of everyday existence.
